Florida tight end set to transfer

After battling through two injury-plagued seasons, Colin Thompson will continue his college career at another school.

Tight end Colin Thompson is transferring from Florida. Thompson was formerly a four-star recruit and the No. 2 tight end in the country out of Archbishop Wood (PA) High School. He played in three games during the 2013 season before injuries kept him off the field for the rest of the season.

"We granted permission for schools to contact Colin," Florida spokesman Steve McClain said. "The SEC approved a medical exemption for him in May and we will share that information with the other institutions."

The outcome is not a surprise. Foot injuries slowed him from getting on the field and being productive in the last two seasons. Will Muschamp didn't have any answers during the spring while Florida waited for Thompson to get healthy, but he wasn't able to get on the practice field.

The Florida tight end position is expected to be filled by Virginia transfer Jake McGee this season.
