The sophomore cornerback was named to the Walter Camp Player of the Year watch list on Friday morning. The award is given to the nation’s top player at the end of the season.
Of the 50 players on the watch list, Vernon Hargreaves is one of only 17 defensive players to make it. He’s also one of only five sophomores on the list. It’s the fourth watch list Hargreaves has been placed on this month after previously being listed for the Bednarik Award, Bronco Nagurski Trophy and Jim Thorpe Award.
Last season, Hargreaves started the final 10 games of his freshman year and recorded three interceptions. His 11 pass breakups equaled the most by a true freshman in Florida history and was ninth most for any player in program history.
Former Florida quarterback Danny Wuerffel (1996) is the only Florida player to win the Walter Camp Player of the Year.
The watch list for the award will be narrowed to 10 semifinalists in mid-November.
