Howard hopeful

Local Gainesville standout Naquan Howard is hoping on a Gator scholarship offer

Naquan Howard (Gainesville, Fla./Buchholz) is a local two-way standout prospect that attended Friday Night Lights at the University of Florida, though he did not take part in the event.

”It was really fun and I wish I could have participated,” Howard said. “I felt accepted even though I didn’t participate. There was a lot of competition even though I wasn’t out there.”

Howard, a wide receiver and cornerback, knows he could be close to an offer from the Gators.

”I have the size, skill, talent and the film,” Howard said. “I have to get two classes out of the way. I had a late injury last year and got depressed. All is going good right now.

”I can play offense and defense but at the next level I think I will play cornerback. I have the size (6-0/170) and speed to stay on any wide receiver. I am a technician, so my press and cover skills are decent. I like contact and coming up so making a tackle is not a problem.”

Now if only Will Muschamp and the Gators pull the trigger with an offer.

”I grew up in Gainesville and lived here all my life,” Howard said. “I am a diehard fan. A Florida offer would be great. I would still be open but they would be on top of my list.”

Howard does have scholarship offers from teams like Marshall, Bethune-Cookman, Georgia Southern, Samford, South Alabama and others.
