Two titans of college football defense square off for one of the biggest prospects in the south. Linebacker Adonis Thomas will choose between the two schools Friday evening and the winner will get the commitment from a prospect with great athleticism.
Scout.com national analyst Chad Simmons says there is a ton to like about Thomas.
“Thomas is one of those that stands out on the hoof as soon as you see him,” wrote Simmons for Thomas’ profile on Scout. “He is still a little lean, but tall, long, and athletic. His athleticism is what is most appealing about him. He could project as an outside linebacker, rush end, or tight end. He has great range at linebacker and he excels coming off the edge. He can chase down the ball and he closes with very good speed.”
The Gators were thought to be the leader for Thomas for nearly half a year. Three weeks ago Thomas visited Tuscaloosa and things changed quite a bit. Alabama made a huge push and now the battle has been serious and close for the time in between.
Central Gwinnett head coach Todd Wofford understands why this one is a close call.
“He is honestly as of today talking with his mom tonight and praying on it,” Wofford said late Thursday night. “He shut down contact with everyone and told me he would know in the morning. I told him he can’t go wrong, I am a fan of both programs.”
Both Florida and Alabama love the big linebackers and Thomas is a prospect that fits the bill for both. Thomas projects to be about 240 pounds before he finishes college and a guy that should be a beast in the SEC for years to come.
According to Wofford, Thomas knows he can’t go wrong with either choice.
“He loves each staff and the defenses they run,” Wofford said. He loves Florida as a school and not just football. He likes the tradition at linebacker at both as well and that causes his tough decision.”
Thomas will make the big decision Friday at 6:30 p.m. and Scout.com will have the decision and more shortly after. So stay tuned.
