Hargreaves suffers a bone bruise

Florida made the decision to open eight practices this fall, trying to build fan support and enthusiasm after a 4-8 record last year. Less than an hour into the first open practice of the fall, those in attendance saw the team’s All-American cornerback down on the field in pain.

“An MRI revealed that Vernon Hargreaves suffered a bone bruise and he is listed as day to day,” Will Muschamp said on Twitter late Thursday night.

The outcome was much better than it originally looked.

Vernon Hargreaves III limped out of a huddle of Florida players that were trying to break up a fight. He made it 10 yards away from the pile before falling on the ground, unable to stay up any longer. Trainers flocked to Hargreaves before two helped him up and had to carry him off the field as the sophomore put no weight on his left leg.

Once they made it to the medical tent, trainers spent about five minutes with Hargreaves before helping him to a bench. Teammates flocked in that direction to check in and make sure their cornerback was OK. Trainers taped ice to his left knee, and he was able to put weight on it only to make his way to the passenger seat of a cart that drove him off the practice field.

Muschamp meets with the media at 12 p.m. on Friday and will provide further details on the injury.
