Davis off to fast start this season

Von Davis is off to a torrid start in 2014 and looks to get even better.

Friday night, Mount Dora took care of business over East Ridge, but it was an interception run back for a touchdown that made the difference in the 30-21 contest. A completed pass meant East Ridge was in position to kick the game winning field goal. It was Mount Dora’s Von Davis that intercepted the ball deep in his own territory and ran it all the way back for his second touchdown of the day.

“It felt great, it was my first pick-six ever, so I was pretty excited,” Davis said late Monday evening. “But, there are more to come.”

As he and his team prepares for a game this Friday against Titusville Astronaut, Davis is also in the middle of a season where he is being recruited by teams all over the southeast. Right now, Davis says he is favoring three schools in “FAU, Kentucky, and waiting on Florida”.

The Owls of Florida Atlantic have been working him hard and he likes what the program has to offer.

“I haven’t taken a tour, but I’ve been around the campus before and have seen the stadium,” Davis said. “Coach Jamison just sends good luck messages, he seems pretty cool. Other FAU recruiters have been to my games and school to see me, they are all nice guys.”

The Kentucky Wildcats are an SEC program that has really stepped up their recruiting game. They have spent a lot of time in the state of Florida and are paying a lot of attention to Davis.

“I haven’t had a chance to make it up there yet, but they’ve been on me since the 10th grade,” Davis said. “They were my first offer and Coach Scott keeps in touch with me.”

The Florida Gators are looking for some help in the secondary and have let Davis known they are very interested. Secondary coach Travaris Robinson got to coach up Davis at camp in June and let him know he will continue to watch him.

“Coach ‘T-Rob’ is amazed at how much I’ve gotten better,” Davis said. “He said he will be at my first game to offer me if I ball out.”

There are a few things he likes about the Gators.

“The distance from home, the coaches, and the players… I know a couple of them personally, and the school,” he said.“

In the end, Davis says he knows what he is looking for in a program.

“I will go to the school that gives me the best opportunities to pursue my career,” he said.
