Harris being investigated for sexual assault

Florida freshman quarterback Treon Harris has been suspended from team activities after being accused of sexual assault.

Harris is accused of sexually assaulting a female student early Sunday morning in a residence hall on the Florida campus. The University of Florida Police Department and the Gainesville Police Department are investigating the incident.

"We have no tolerance for sexual assault on our campus," UF President Bernie Machen said in a statement. "The university is committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment for every member of the UF community. We must strive to protect all of our students from sexual harassment and assault, and do everything in our power to promote a safe learning environment."

David Jones of the Florida Today first reported that Treon Harris is being investigated in a legal matter, adding that no charges have been filed against Harris yet.

Harris was the hero in Florida’s 10-9 win at Tennessee. He relieved starting quarterback Jeff Driskel for the final play of the third quarter and played the entire fourth quarter, leading the Gators to all ten of their points. Harris went 2-4 for 17 yards and added 24 rushing yards.

Florida coach Will Muschamp said after the game that the battle between Jeff Driskel and Harris would go into this week of practice before a decision was made about a starter for Saturday. Harris is now suspended from team activities.
