Tabor named co-SEC Freshman of the Week

Cornerback Jalen Tabor earned the first start of his career on Saturday in Knoxville, and the league honored his performance by being named co-SEC Freshman of the Week.

Tabor split the honors with Georgia running back Nick Chubb.

The freshman ended the game tied for third on the team with five tackles, adding one tackle for a loss, a forced fumble and recovery, a pass breakup and one sack.

Jalen Tabor made his presence felt from the first drive, coming up with a pass break up on third down to force Tennessee to punt. He played well in coverage, allowing the Gators to push Brian Poole inside to nickel, his best position in the secondary.

His biggest play of the game came late in the third quarter. Tabor came off a corner blitz and sacked quarterback Justin Worley, forcing and recovering a fumble. The offense responded with a 27-yard touchdown drive to cut the score to 9-7.

Florida returns to action on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. when it hosts LSU.
