The Swamp was in overdrive Saturday night as Florida faced SEC West foe LSU. Among the many fans at the game was New Smyrna Beach offensive guard Jalen Merrick. Merrick knows Florida is a special place and even though the Gators lost to LSU 30-27 Merrick was impressed with the crowd.
“It’s always great to be back in The Swamp, the atmosphere was really cool,” Merrick remembered. “There are a lot of people and it’s really great, especially when Florida comes down to the goal line. It’s always loud.”
Merrick was impressed with Florida and the way the coaches handled the game and looks for those things when he comes to a game.
“[I look] really just see how the players react to everything and how the coaches react in tough situations,” and in Merrick’s opinion they reacted the way he wanted them to, noting, “it’s a great school, a great atmosphere, and good place to be all the time.”
For the New Smyrna Beach star Florida and Miami really take the cake on the recruiting trail. Merrick knows he will be attending the Miami North Carolina game in Miami November 1st and has a few other trips planned to see Ohio State and Arkansas, but he knows Florida will always be in the mix.
“[I love] everything pretty much, I fell in love with this place my first visit.” Merrick said Saturday night.
Florida has something else Merrick likes as well. The freshmen on the Florida team are making a big impact and Merrick could see himself as one of those guys. “It does make me feel good because I know I could be a freshman starter just like Jalen Tabor and everybody.”
Merrick is ready to see what Florida has up their sleeve next week when facing SEC opponent Missouri for the University’s homecoming game. “It hurts to see anybody lose especially when you’re interested in the team, but I know Florida will bounce back when they play Missouri.”TAILGATER Wooden Ice Chest Giveaway
