Hollywood Bob's Private Screening (12/2)

Here is the latest version of Hollywood Bob's Private Screening and in this post we talk about what are the remaining players that are leaving early for the NFL, we talk a little about what is going down in recruiting without a coaching staff, and we talk in depth about the coaching search and what I am hearing.

Early departures…

Our good friend Brady Ackerman tweeted about it last week, but we have been able to confirm that Florida running back Matt Jones has decided to move on to the NFL. It is understandable for Jones who really had nothing personal to gain from another year on campus. He wasn’t going to get stronger or faster and most likely learning another new offense. He also has had his share of injuries which usually leads guy to move on if they have a chance.

We already know that Tyler Moore has decided to move on. In my opinion the decision was more based on his health than anything. I heard he is tired of the aches and pains and will give it a shot at trying to make money, if it doesn’t work out he will take his degree and move on.

With the announcement via Twitter of Drew Sarvary giving up football, the offensive line looks particularly thinner than expected, which is crazy thin. Ackerman also reported last week that it is likely that D.J. Humphries will move on and we can confirm that it is the plan for him as well at this point. That one is not set in stone, but it appears to be the case.

That would leave Florida with Trip Thurman as the lone senior offensive lineman on the roster. As a matter of fact there are also no juniors on the roster for next year on the offensive line. Thurman did have a really good year in 2014, but it is alarming that he will be the only returning upper classman in the unit. Look for the Gator staff to scour the JuCo ranks for 203 prospects to come in right away and add to the lineup.

Thurman played well; we also saw good minutes from Roderick Johnson and a few good minutes from David Sharpe. The last two could be bookend tackles, with Johnson able to move inside if necessary Antonio Riles and Cam Dillard are the only other two to play at all and really in back up roles in 2014. Johnson, Sharpe, Dillard, and Riles will all be sophomores.

I understand the staff liked what they saw out Kavaris Harkless, Andrew Mike, and Travaris Dorsey. Mike is a true tackle, while Harkless could play inside or outside and Dorsey is a guard. Still, we are talking about eight total offensive linemen returning for next season if Humphries does indeed jump ship.
