Tate to visit Gainesville in January

New head coach for the Florida Gators Jim McElwain started the recruiting trail soon after his press conference this past Saturday in Gainesville. One of the first stops for Coach Mac, as the players refer to him, was in Tampa where he made a visit to Auden Tate and his family.

“He told me who he was and talked about his track record.” Auden Tate said of the home visit with Jim McElwain. “He’s coached Julio Jones who was the top receiver in college football. He does a great job with his offense and the guys he coaches.”

Tate has experienced an offense similar to the one McElwain runs and sees himself fitting in great.

“It does excite me. I like what he does. I’m comfortable in that offense. It’s the kind of offense my high school runs and I like it a lot,” Tate said. “I could most definitely see myself playing for him. He’s really smart, watches a lot of film, he’s coached Julio Jones and he did great things at Alabama. He does a great job and just lights up sparks around him.”

Shortly after the holidays Tate will be in Gainesville taking an official visit to the school to see more of Coach McElwain, though he is committed to Florida’s in state rival FSU.

When asked if the official visits Tate plans on taking could sway him to another school he responded, “I don’t know. I have to do what’s best for me, so I don’t know.”
