Jacksonville Trinity Christian is used to winning championships and that includes two-way lineman Kendrick Norton. Fresh off of a second straight state championship and a post season game win pitting Florida State champs against champs from other states, Kendrick is now participating in the Under Armour All-American Game and doing well after one day.
He is also highly recruited and the Gators, led by head coach Jim McElwain would love to have him be a part of the 2015 class. They have a lot of work to do.
Right now he knows that Miami, Ole Miss, UCLA, and Auburn are all part of his tip five group, and as for the Gators, “they aren’t out of (the mix), but not in it as strong as they used to be,” according to Norton.
Norton has had a chance to talk to both McElwain and defensive coordinator Geoff Collins.
“I have spoken with them,” Norton said. “They said that nothing has fallen off, besides Muschamp leaving and they would still love to have me there.”
One thing that is in the cards for Norton is that he won’t entertain anyone wanting him to play on the offensive side of the ball.
“I am not playing offense in college, unless I can’t get on the field playing defense… then I will go on offense,” he said. “But I am not going to school to play offense.”
He has yet to learn what exactly Collins wants to do coaching defense and style that will be implemented.“We have just had a five minute recruiting call, but haven’t had a chance to sit down and talk a lot yet,” Norton said about finding out more from Collins.”
Despite the Gators being on the outside looking in, Norton does want to check out Florida before all is said and done.
“I want to go and meet these guys,” Norton said of the staff. “I will try and swing by sometime in January.”
He’s in no rush to make a decision and he knows what he is looking for.
“Probably close to signing day,” he said about a decision time. “I want to play early, but just be comfortable with the program.”
