First of all, the Florida Gators are in desperate need of linebackers and finding an athletic 6-foot-2, 215 pounder that can run like Rayshad Jackson does is a great thing. Jackson committed to the Florida Gators on Sunday and is Randy Shannon’s first get at the position.
He has enough size where there is a chance to play early and his athleticism, will only help. Because of depth at the position on campus, he does have a chance to play early.
Florida didn’t sign a single linebacker in the class a year ago and head coach Jim McElwain’s second commitment of the class is one step to meeting the depth at the position that is so dearly needed.
The fact that Shannon was able to use his resources as a South Florida recruiter and jump into Miami Norland this late for such an outstanding prospect is a testament to what he can bring to the table in that regard as well. Trying to get a foothold in Miami ihas not been an easy task for Florida over the years and this commitment could help get that rolling.
This is Florida’s ninth commitment in the class and the hope is that Jackson can help get some momentum for a class that has been slow to get back on track since McElwain took over.
Stay tuned to Fightin’ Gators as we continue to get all the prospects visiting this weekend and cover them throughout the rest of the process.
