McElwain hires WR coach, completes staff

The final hire to the Florida coaching staff was made on Tuesday morning.

Kerry Dixon II was hired as Florida’s wide receivers coach. He spent last season as the running backs coach at Florida International.

“Kerry is a young, energetic, up-and-coming coach,” said McElwain. “He has strong recruiting ties throughout the state and as a former offensive coordinator he will bring value to the offensive game plan.”

He brings south Florida recruiting ties to the Gators and will serve as Florida's seventh receivers coach in the last seven years.

Before that, Dixon spent 2012-13 as the running backs coach at FAU. In 2013 under Dixon, the FAU running backs set school records with 2,215 yards and 21 touchdowns. Dixon coached running back at Montana State from 2010-11. He served as the offensive coordinator at Stillman College in 2009 after coaching quarterbacks at Texas Southern in 2008 and doing the same at Morgan State in 2007.

Dixon played quarterback at Booker T. Washington High School in Houston, Texas. He signed with Baylor in the 2002 recruiting class and started two games as a freshman. He moved to receiver as a sophomore before suffering an injury and transferring to Hampton. He served as a team captain as a senior, graduating in 2004 with a degree in political science.
