Bader named SEC Player of the Week

The Florida offense was led by its left fielder during the opening series.

Harrison Bader was named SEC Player of the Week after hitting .583 over the weekend, going 7-12 at the plate with three home runs, two doubles, five runs scored and 11 RBI. The junior posted a 1.500 slugging percentage and a .643 on-base percentage, adding a stolen base with one walk and one hit by a pitch.

Pete Alonso was expected to be the cleanup hitter for No. 2 Florida coming into the year, but he broke his foot in practice last week and will miss the first 6-8 weeks of the season. That forced Bader into the cleanup spot, and he took advantage over the weekend.

Florida spent Rhode Island by a combined score of 37-5. The Gators host Florida A&M on Tuesday before traveling to USF on Wednesday. Florida then hosts No. 14 Miami over the weekend, starting at 7 p.m. on Friday.
