Gators make huge impression on Roberson

Powder Springs (Ga.) McEachern tight end Christian Roberson spent the day in Gainesville at Florida’s first Junior Day for the recruiting cycle. He left with the Gators at the top of his list.

At 6-foot-6 and 210 pounds, the Florida Gators think Christian Roberson is one of the top versatile tight ends in the country and offered the young man about a month ago. On Saturday, Roberson spent time in Gainesville and came away impressed immensely with the Gator program and the coaching staff led by head coach Jim McElwain.

“It was very good, I enjoyed every moment of it,” Roberson said of his Junior Day visit. “I got a chance to speak with Coach Drew (Hughes), Coach McElwain, and the entire coaching staff. Mainly I met with Coach Greg Nord and Coach McElwain today.”

It was important for Roberson to come away with a good feeling about the tight end coach at Florida and that is exactly what happened with Greg Nord and him.

“Coach Nord is a very down to earth coach,” Roberson said. “I was able to really start up a good relationship with him today. Coach McElwain is a very high energy coach and a very nice guy. He talked to me a lot today.”

The staff made sure to let Roberson know what they like about him and just how he would fit in the new offense that Florida will be running.

“What they said today was that I am a versatile tight end, I can catch the ball and block at the line of scrimmage,” Roberson said. “They showed me the offense and how I fit. Coach Nord says they are a pro-style which is the same for my high school, so that is good. I can flex out or line up at the line of scrimmage. My main strength is that I can catch the ball, but I can also block well.”

Roberson seemed to have about as good a trip as could be expected.

“It was a great environment and just hit it off with Coach Nord and just being in The Swamp and all the great energy with the players,” he said about the things he liked. “It really felt like home.”

The Gators seem like the top team on his list, but he says Mississippi State is also up there in the top two.

“I plan on coming to visit this spring and summer for camp,” he said about coming back to Gainesville. “Right now Florida is one of the top schools along with Mississippi State as well. I am going to see them on April 11. I have a great relationship with their coaches.”

When all is said and done the young man with eight power-5 program offers believes he knows what he is looking for in a program.

“I am looking for a program with a great football team, great graduation rate, and somewhere that is like home,” he said.

Stay tuned to as we continue to monitor the recruitment of Christian Roberson.
