Vinson visits new Florida staff

For 2017 offensive lineman Blake Vinson of Ocala Trinity Catholic, Friday’s trip to Gainesville was a chance to see what the University of Florida football program under head coach Jim McElwain offered. Classes were in session, players were having meetings, and a practice session.

Blake Vinson arrived in the afternoon and went right to it.

“We got there about 1:30 and went into the trophy room,” Vinson said by phone after the visit. “One of the caching assistants came out and gave us the tour of the facilities, the weight room, and the locker room. We hung out there and I got to talk to some of the players and stuff in the weight room and training room.”

Florida assistant Greg Nord is the assistant that recruits the Ocala area, he and offensive line coach Mike Summers. The two are really interested in Vinson to a great deal.

“I got to talk to Coach Nord and Coach Summers a lot and they really like me,” Vinson said. “Coach Nord told my offensive line coach they will offer me in the spring. They said they really want me but didn’t offer me today. They are really interested and want me to be a Gator one day.

“I have been talking to Coach Nord off and on, on the phone, he’s always telling me to visit and stuff. They really like my size and length.”

Vinson left Gainesville knowing that he has some room for improvement, and that he liked what he saw.

“It was great seeing a college practice because I hadn’t seen one before,” he said. “I like how organized everything is. I think seeing the college offensive linemen. They are pretty big dudes, fast, and athletic. I know I just have to continue to get bigger, faster, and stronger… just keep working hard.”
