Gators drop in polls

Florida was ranked as high as No. 1 going into last week, but its first series loss of the year changed that.

Coming into last week, Florida was 18-3 and ranked in the top three of all polls, including No. 1 in some. The series loss pushed the Gators down to No. 3 in the Perfect Game poll, No. 4 in the Baseball America poll and No. 4 in the D1baseball poll.

The week got off to a good start for the Gators (20-5, 3-3 SEC), beating Florida State 14-8 to take the first game of a midweek series. Florida pounded out 16 hits and scored in six of its eight innings at the plate. The Seminoles made five errors during the game to make things worse, and the Gators were able to capitalize.

Florida took momentum into its weekend series at Ole Miss, but it didn’t look like it on the field. The Gators dropped the first two games -- 4-1 and 5-2 -- before beating the Rebels 8-4 in the series finale.

Florida returns to action on Tuesday at Stetson. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. The Gators will host Alabama in a three-game series starting on Thursday night.
