McCalister credits Fowler for turnaround

Making the jump from North Carolina high school football to [playing in the SEC isn't an easy one. For some it is tougher than others. For Florida junior Alex McCalister the start to his career with the Gators was a rough one and one that was helped along by future NFL star Dante Fowler.

He showed up at Florida at 206 pounds. At 6-foot-6, Alex McCalister was a great athlete that could jump and run, but playing along the line of scrimmage at Florida and against the beasts he had to face every day in practice was too much for him to handle at the time.

He almost walked away from it all as a freshman. If not for his friends on the squad, especially Dante Fowler, and then some success in the spring of his sophomore year, McCalister would not be ready to be a huge part of the Gators big defensive plans this season.

He talks a little about that period of time and how at 32 pounds later he is ready to take on the nation's best conference yet again.
