Thompson temporarily "excused from the team"

The Gainesville Police Department filed a sworn complaint against Florida junior receiver Chris Thompson on Thursday. The complaint stems from an altercation from a longtime girlfriend when Thompson tried to forcibly retrieve his cell phone from the girl. For now Thompson is relieved of football responsibilities until things are resolved.

The misdemeanor complaint will be investigated tp see whether the State Sttorney’s office would like to pursue it further. Until things are cleared up Jim McElwain says Chris Thompson is excused from the team.

“Chris obviously had an incident sometime last week,” McElwain said following Thursday’s practice. “He is dealing with that and is excused from what we are doing here until that is resolved. We will find out as it goes forward (how to deal with it). He is excused from the team and dealing with the matter.”

Thompson is a true junior and the fastest of the Florida receiving corps. He wa fighting for a starting spot in the unit and in a position in his third year to make a difference. In a unit that has been void of play makers for several years Thompson is an option in terms of speed and has had a bit o experience in his first two years on campus.
