Report: Donovan loses an assistant

Billy Donovan has served as a mentor for Matt McCall since his days as a Florida manager, but McCall will now leave the Florida staff to take his first head coach job at UT-Chattanooga, according to Scout’s Evan Daniels.

McCall spent four years at Florida as an assistant, helping the Gators to SEC Championships in 2013 and 2014, as well as a Final Four appearance in 2014. He started his time with the Florida basketball program as a student manager for the Gators during 2002-03 season and became the head manager the next season. He later became Florida’s director of basketball operations from 2006-08.

McCall left Gainesville to take an assistant coach job at Florida Atlantic in 2009, where he spent three years before returning as a full-time member of the Florida coaching staff.

The Gators have kept the same coaching staff together for the last three seasons.
