Report: White is Gators' leading candidate

Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley met with his staff Monday afternoon about the vacant men’s basketball coach position, and one candidate appears to be sticking out.

Louisiana Tech coach Michael White has emerged as the leading candidate for the Florida job, according to a report from Pat Forde of Yahoo! Sports. The report also said White and Foley could meet as soon as Thursday.

The 38-year-old coach is 101-40 in four seasons at Louisiana Tech. The 2013 WAC Coach of the Year, White has helped the program win at least 27 games in each of the last three seasons. Louisiana Tech went to the NIT the last three seasons despite winning their conference all three years. Their conference tournament losses held them out of the NCAA Tournament.

White is also the son of Duke athletic director Kevin White.

Other Southeastern Conference programs have also sought after him in recent years. Missouri and Tennessee both went after White last offseason but were turned down, according to ESPN, and it turned into a contract extension and raise for White.
