Gators will host West Virginia

Florida added another game to its 2015-16 schedule on Thursday.

The Gators will host West Virginia on January 30 as part of the SEC/Big 12 Challenge. The conferences agree to move the challenge to January so it will have a national platform in the middle of league play.

Florida is 1-1 in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge, splitting meetings with Kansas over the last two seasons with each team winning its home game.

The Gators are 4-3 all-time against West Virginia, but they haven’t played in a while. The most recent matchup ended with a 70-57 Florida win in the Orange Bowl Classic in Sunrise, Fla., on December 20, 2003.

The matchup will be special for Florida assistant coach Darris Nichols, who played point guard at West Virginia and scored 993 career points while helping West Virginia to an Elite Eight and two Sweet 16s during his four-year career.

Last season, the Mountaineers went 25-10 and reached the Sweet 16.

New Florida coach Michael White went 1-1 vs. Big 12 teams during his time at Louisiana Tech. White’s tem earned a win at Oklahoma and a loss against Oklahoma State.
