White completes his Gators staff

Florida coach Michael White completed his staff late Thursday night.

Shortly after taking the Florida job, Michael White announced that he would be bringing assistant coaches Darris Nichols and Jordan Mincy with him to Gainesville. That left one assistant job still open, and White knew who he wanted to fill it.

Dusty May served as the associate head coach at Louisiana Tech under White, but when White left for Florida, May put his name into the mix to take over the Louisiana Tech program. On Thursday, May took his name out of the running for the job at Louisiana Tech and made the decision to join White and the rest of his staff in Gainesville.

May, 37, has been at Louisiana Tech since 2009. He previously served under Mike Davis at Alabama-Birmingham and also held assistant jobs at Eastern Michigan and Murray State. May graduated from Indiana and served as a student manager for four years under Bobby Knight.

White’s first staff at Florida is a young one. Including director of basketball operations Kyle Church, the assistants joining White average 29.8 years old.
