He played basketball more than football in high school, but Luke Ancrum grew into a serious threat as a senior at Sebring High School.
Standing 6-foot-5 and 245 pounds back in January, there is a chance that Ancrum grows into a three-technique defensive tackle, but should show up as a strong side defensive end in the Florida scheme.
Ranked the 75th best player in the Orlando Sentinel’s Florida Top 100, Ancrum had 10 tackles for loss as a senior and averaged over 12 rebounds a game and four blocked shots on the basketball court.
Florida is always looking for the athletic type and Ancrum fits that bill. His ultimate versatility could lead him to play that Jonathan Bullard role where he could play some inside and some outside. He has optimum size to be a star on the next level.
He shouldn’t be counted on in his freshman season and should have plenty of time to grow into whatever position he will end up. After not playing much football so far, he will also have time to firm up some technique for the position.
Luke Ancrum is our #96 as we continue approach opening day of the 2015 season.
