Florida and Florida State met three times during midweek games this season, and the Seminoles won two of the three games. The Gators won the matchup in Gainesville 14-8 on March 17.

Both teams swept through their Regionals over the weekend, setting up the first Super Regional meeting between the Gators and Seminoles since 2005 when Florida won the first two games in Gainesville to reach the College World Series. This is also the first time Florida State has played in a Super Regional on the road since that year.
