We met Joshua Hammond over two years ago and interviewed mostly because he is the younger brother of Gator Great Frankie Hammond. The Kansas City Chiefs receiver was a fan favorite and favorite of the media and the little brother didn’t disappoint either. It has been quiet for a little while with Hammond, but I guess we should be too surprised that he picked the Gators.
Hammond put the reason for his commitment in his own words.
“It just felt like home to be honest,” he said when we reached him Thursday evening.
As we said, things looked to be heading in another direction, or so it seemed. He said It was more like he wanted to make sure he was going to make the right decision.
“I wouldn’t say things got away from me,” he said. “I would just say I sat back and felt the recruiting process and checked out my options. I checked schools and sort it out.”
“Coach Dixon and Coach Shannon both recruited me,” Hammond said. “Coach Dixon told me about how he wants guys that are going to come in and work hard and not cause trouble off the field. He talked about how they plan on getting back to a National Championship.”
Saying h just “felt like the timing was right”, Hammond really wasn’t pushed by older brother Frankie to commit to the Gators.
“Frankie really didn’t have anything to say he just told me to do what was the best for me,” he said.
Having an older brother go through the college thing already, he understands what is expected and what he expects of himself.
“I am a player that will come in and work hard and battle,” he said before talking about the anticipation of being at Florida. “I just want to get the experience, I know what to expect, I just want to feel it for myself.”
