Andrew Ivie is likely another true freshman that won’t be counted on in year one, but if he is anything like his brother, he very well could see the field.
Ivie comes from a fine Dade City Pasco team that is always well coached and plays some significant competition. At 6-foot-2 and 280 pounds and a state champion wrestler, he does have the size and physical acumen to be able to see the field.
The brother of current Gators junior defensive tackle Joey Ivie, Andrew was named to the Tampa Tribune’s All-Pasco County team, he racked up 59 tackles with nine tackles-for-loss and five sacks as a senior. As a junior, Ivie totaled 62 tackles and two sacks. His brother came in as a guy that wasn’t supposed to see the field early and was the only defensive line in his much heralded line class that actually saw action in his true freshman season.
Again like his brother, he brings a relentless motor to get to the football and has the hands an technique to disengage from linemen better than most at his level. As the only defensive tackle in the class it would be opportune to redshirt Ivie if possible, but we will have to see if that is actually in the cards. On the 92nd day before the kickoff of the Gators season, we bring you true freshman Andrew Ivie.
