Countdown to Kickoff: #81 Great Dallas Baker

With no #81 on the roster we will flashback again to the first part of the last decade and a player that has a national championship ring. Receiver Dallas Baker was much maligned by the end of his sophomore season, but now stands as the fifth leading receiver in terms of catches in Florida history.

Early in his sophomore year Dallas Baker faced a personal defining moment in his career with a penalty in the Tennessee game that would end up costing the game for the Gators. It was a season of great controversy that would eventually cost his head coach his job.

Under the direction of Urban Meyer and company, Dallas Baker flourished. With 39 catches for 619 yards and six touchdowns in his first two seasons, he posted 112 catches for 1,617 yards I his final two years.

Baker’s 151 catches in his career sits fifth all-time in Florida history, while his 2,236 yards sits sixth all-time.

For a guy that could have gone either way after a somewhat shaky start, Dallas Baker holds a prominent spot in Florida football history.

Here is a throwback interview of Baker after the 2006 National Championship win versus Ohio State.
