Part of a three tight end class in 2014, Cyontai Lewis needed to redshirt and add some strength. He’s not all the way where he needs to get to yet, but at 6-foot-4 and 229 pounds he is a real threat deep and in the red zone with his speed, athleticism, and height.
From Kingwood Christian in Alabaster (Ala.) Lewis caught 45 passes for 703 yards and scored 10 touchdowns as a senior. His athleticism shined as he also played safety, linebacker, and defensive end along with being the team’s kick returner at times. On defense as a senior he added 78 tackles, snagged three interceptions, notched a safety and recovered a fumble.
Lewis was also a star basketball player in high school which just adds more to his athleticism.
Part of unit that is expected to have a real turnaround in 2015, Lewis can be that deep threat and that real mismatch for linebackers and safeties that the staff is looking for at the position. He and the other guys in his unit could allow the staff to really change things up and play two tight ends a lot of the time.
Cyontai Lewis is one to watch on the Gator roster for 2015.
