Gators finish at No. 3

Florida’s season ended last weekend in Omaha with a loss to the eventual national champion, Virginia.

The Gators finished the season at No. 3 in polls released by Collegiate Baseball, D1Baseball, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, Perfect Game and USA Today. It’s the highest Florida has finished in a postseason poll since finishing as the national runner up in 2005 and 2011.

The Gators finished the 2015 season 52-18 while advancing to the College World Series for the fourth time in the last six seasons. It was the ninth trip to Omaha in school history, four of them coming under Kevin O’Sullivan. The Gators also won at least 50 games for the second time under O’Sullivan and the fourth time in school history.

Florida won two games over Florida State in the Super Regional to advance to Omaha, and once there, the Gators beat Miami twice to eliminate the Hurricanes. In those four games, the Gators won by a combined score of 49-14.

Florida will likely be ranked in the top three heading into 2016 and has a good chance to start the year at No. 1. The Gators return their top four starting pitchers and six of nine players in the starting lineup.
