Continuing our countdown to the season with the player jersey numbers and Wednesday marked the 59th day before the Gators kickoff the season. Number 59 on this Gator roster is true freshman offensive lineman T.J. McCoy.
He is the newest Gator on the roster. T.J. McCoy transferred from NC State a couple of weeks ago after showing up early at the school and graduating from Groveland (Fla.) Southlake HS in December.
After one semester at NC State, McCoy asked and was granted a release from his scholarship and is now allowed to play right away at Florida. The son of Gator Great defensive tackle Tony McCoy, T.J. has the pedigree you are looking for when recruiting a prospect.
He was already committed to NC State before Jim McElwain and staff were hired, so there was really no chance to get him on board.
Now he has an opportunity to work his way into the two-deep where his 6-foot-1, 302 pound frame will push him to the inside positions.
A center by trade, he will add instant competition for sophomore Cam Dillard and true freshman Tyler Jordan who have to replace NFL bound Max Garcia at the position.
