Swain getting comfortable with Gator coaches

There aren’t many that have captured the attention of college football recruitniks in the last few weeks like Citra North Marion 4-star receiver Freddie Swain has. After a sterling week in Oregon at The Opening, he has rocketed up the charts for many.

The Florida Gators have basically on the outside looking in for Freddie Swain for a while, but Swain made the trip to see the Gators Friday for Friday Night Lights just to get a better grasp of what the Gators have to offer. Before the event Swain talked to the media on hand and talked about the things going on with his recruitment.

“(I came) so I can spend a little more time with the coaches, talk with the coaches and to see if I can see myself playing in the orange and Blue,” Swain said Friday afternoon,” he said.

According to Swain, the staff is stepping up their recruiting game.

“Florida is on me heavier now… Coach Dixon and Coach Nord,” he said. “I am just coming here to see and change my relationship with the coaches and make a better decision for myself.”

The Gators aren’t trying to pressure Swain at all and being from just 40 miles down the road he well knows some of the positives of playing for the Gators.

“They are telling me I can come in and play to stay focused and make the best decision for myself,” he said. “It’s nice and close to home. It’s always nice to have the Gators in your back pocket.”

Tennessee has been the reported front runner although Swain wasn’t willing to name any leaders Friday. Coach Zach Azzanni is the receiver coach there and the two have built a nice bond.

“I am good with Coach Z, we talk about every two or three days,” he said. “We have a good relationship.”

It has been a fast ride over the last few weeks and Swain is enjoying it.

“I’m having a great summer,” he said. “It feels pretty good, I felt like I was underrated so I feel like I opened some eyes. It has been there all along, I just played against some competition to show my skills versus their skills and show who is better. You compete against the best people in the nation, so it is always good going against the best.

“Teams have been on me heavier now so I can’t complain.”

Swain says he knows he wants to visit Tennessee and Miami before making a final decision on his college choice on October 30. That is the day his Colts will take on Hoover (Ala.) in Hoover. The school just happens to be the home school of the Gators latest commitment, outside linebacker Jeremiah Moon.

Swain says that Florida commitment Chauncey Gardner has been light selling him to the Gators on Twitter and that he probably won’t make a top list of schools before deciding in Alabama. He also knows what things are going to settle his decision.

“I don’t think I will make my top (school’s list),” he said. “I think I will just go to the Hoover game and make my decision right there. I have to feel at home and early playing time.”
