Report: McElwain bolsters support staff

The support staff has been an important focus for Jim McElwain, and the first-year coach has added another coach to it.

McElwain hired former NFL quarterback Charlie Frye to the Florida support staff, according to Zach Abolverdi of the Gainesville Sun. Abolverdi added that Frye will help with player development and mental conditioning.

A third round pick in the 2005 NFL Draft, the former Akron quarterback played five seasons in the NFL. Frye started 13 games for the Cleveland Browns in 2006, throwing for 2,454 yards, 10 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. It was the only season he would start more than five games.

Frye was a four-year starter at Akron. He was also named MVP of the 2005 Senior Bowl before being drafted.
