A late bloomer in the recruiting process only in terms of getting noticed, Chris Williamson went from two scholarship offers in December of 2014 to over 25 offers by the time signing day rolled around in early February.
At 5-foot-11 and 188 pounds Williamson has the length and size to play at the highest level of college football and his athleticism is off the charts. The top schools in the south were all over him back in January.
While the returning group of cornerbacks on the Florida roster are very talented, the numbers are very low. It is very likely that Williamson will see some meaningful playing time in 2015.
The staff likes to start players off inside at a NICKEL or DIME position so we will likely see him there in the beginning, but he has the ability to push on the outside and he may be a very good fit to play behind Vernon Hargreaves at one of the cornerback spots in the secondary.
Time will tell how good Williamson will be, but he seems to be a huge part of the 2015 class and big piece of the puzzle that head coach Jim McElwain signed in February.
We will be talking about Williamson and the rest f the roster and invite you to join us on our insider message boards at Fightin’ Gators below.
