Scout Spotlight: Gator Commit Eric Mitchell

Here’s an exclusive look at Eric Mitchell, the University of Florida defensive end commitment from Miami (Fla.) Central High School.

In this exclusive take from you will see the fun loving personality of Eric Mitchell shine as he talks about his goals and desires with the game of football. The Florida Gator commitment loves the game and you can tell he really loves talking about it.

Then you turn your attention to the highlights and see a strong, long-armed, speed demon come off the edge to wreak havoc on the quarterback. When he attacks he brings everything with him and cares not for anything that might be in his way. His long arms allow him to leverage the blocker in front of him in order to more easily get by the offensive player, then he turns on the jets to finish the play.

You can also see that Eric Mitchell has some ability to play in space and maybe a hybrid linebacker / pass rusher is the kind of position he might end up at the next level. The interception in the middle of the video shows that ability and what kind of football intelligence he has to sink into the right position on the play, make it, and turn up field to score.

In the SEC you can never have enough pass rushers and that is why Florida made Mitchell a priority early in the process and stayed on him. The fact that he comes from one of the best programs in the country that plays the best competition speaks volumes about the film we see on Mitchell. The Gators have also made South Florida and Miami a big priority and adding a quality player like Mitchell is a big step in the overall direction they want to move.
