In a game that featured a 48 point iwin it is hard to find many negatives. In fact a few players we believe need to play better actually had their bright spots. But, here are five that need to show more in week two than they did in week one.
Bryan Cox: It seems that Jonathan Bullard playing inside is a thing that needs to happen because his speed is a big mismatch there. That means Cox needs to play at a high level. Although he was okay on Saturday, he needs to step it up a bit and the competition will only get better. He missed all of the spring recovering from injury, but he has supposedly had a very good fal. He neds to make it happen.
Ahmad Fulwood: At the time it looked horrible and a flat out drop of the only pass that came his way last Saturday. After watching it, it was a drop, but he was a little late getting his head around after just disengaging his defender. Both re not acceptable and he needs to find a way to be a target more often as well. I expect and the staff expect bigger things from Fulwood, so hopefully we see it starting this weekend.
Vernon Hargreaves: Blasphemy. And he may have had the play of the game with his skying to pick off the pass he did. Still, he got beat a couple of times and NMSU couldn’t connect. He won’t get away with that against bigger and better programs on the schedule, which is basically every other team. Hargreaves is in the midst of playing defense a little bit differently with a lot more zone thrown in, but honestly, that should favor him in the sense of picking the ball of more often instead of playing the defender.
Joey Ivie: Didn’t have a good game, needs to show up a lot better. I think he has it and it will show, needs to start now.
Daniel McMillian: The two penalties he was called for in limited time were the only two whistled. I didn’t see hm make much of an impact either. He was a starter all spring so he has it in him. Get it going now.
