North Marion defeated Pasco County 47-12 Friday night and Blake Vinson was a big part of the win between the two teams that were undefeated coming into the game. Vinson wishes he could have added a little more to the game.
“It is definitely a blast to put a bunch of points on the board… a home game,” he said shortly after the contest. “I keep telling them to put me at linebacker or free safety, I think I can get back there and cover some guys or pick six possibilities.”
Vinson has played a series on the defensive line so far, but he knows there is talent on this team and they can do some damage in the state.
“I think we can definitely go all the way,” he said. “Right now we aren’t playing to our fullest potential. We have a lot of things to work on. Getting too many penalties, everyone is including myself. We can’t look past anyone.”
He spent the weekend in Knoxville, Tennessee and we will catch up with him on that, but he was looking forward to the trip.
“I am leaving Saturday morning for Tennessee,” he said. “I haven’t been to a game as a recruit yet to Tennessee. I am just looking at the game atmosphere, get in front of the coaches again, and really see what it is like at Tennessee. My mom is from Chattanooga, Tennessee and I feel like they are recruiting me hard. I really like the Coach Mahoney and Coach Butch Jones. I feel like it is just a great program.
This coming weekend he will visit The Swamp and is looking forward to it.
“I am going to Florida – Tennessee,” he said. “I like Florida too. It’s a little closer and I really like Coach Summers and I think Coach Mac is going to do some big things with the Gators in the next couple of years.
“They like my size and my athleticism to go along with it. They also like my physicality on the field.”
Four schools seem to be pressing Vinson the most.
“I am getting the most contact from Auburn, Clemson, Tennessee, and Florida,” he said. “Tennessee sent me 50 letters in one day. On Twitter I talk to the coaches, grad assistants, OLine coaches and everything… it is huge talking to them all.”
He is looking forward to checking out these schools under different circumstances than he has in the past.
“I am excited to see Florida’s new indoor practice facility, because I haven’t seen it yet,” he said. “I have also visited Tennessee a couple of times but mainly I am trying to see where I fit in the best.”
In the end, he knows a bit of what he is looking for in a program.
“It will be a little of everything,” Vinson said. “Where I feel most comfortable at and where I will play the soonest. Mostly, it’s where I will feel most comfortable.”
