Dontay Bassett commits to the Gators

Mike White has had a pretty big month but hasn’t traveled far to pick up his first two commitments for the 2016 recruiting class.

Power forward Dontay Bassett from Oldsmar Christian School in Oldsmar (Fla.) joins high school teammate and guard Eric Hester as the first two commitments for White in his brand new tenure at Florida.

Scout national basketball analyst Josh Gershon said of Bassett a year ago when watching him in summer league play…

“The 6-foot-8, 175-pound 2016 prospect has good size and length, is capable of hitting jumpers from the elbow, can score on the offensive glass, plays hard, has some back to the basket game and is a pretty good athlete.”

That was before his junior season and he has refined some of those skills now. Bassett seems a really good fit for the White up and down tempo of playing the game.

Stay tuned to Scout as we work on getting Bassett and bring you more about his commitment.
