Will Gators raid Hurricane commitments?

Here's a look at the top prospects on Miami’s 2016 commitment list that Florida will likely target with the firing of head coach Al Golden.

Receiver Sam Bruce has long been a target of the Gators and one that has seemed really close to making the jump well before anything happened in Miami. The ultra-quick slot receiver is a big play waiting to happen and goes to one of the primo schools to recruit in St. Thomas Aquinas. He’s made a couple of trips to Gainesville this year, but he has been on flip watch for months and hasn’t followed through. He remains tight with current Cane assistant Kevin Beard and that has kept any switch from happening. Will he wait too long?

Joshua Uche is a pass rushing beast, but could play linebacker or defensive end in college. He’s a prospect that Florida has been on for a while trying to get him to turn. He’s one they would still take at this point and he’s shown at least a passing interest in the Gators. The Miami Columbus star really fits the fast and hard hitting style that Florida covets.

Quarterback Jack Allison of Palmetto is one of the best out there and easily top two in the state of Florida for the 2016 class. He was never going to look any direction other than Miami unless there was some kind of change. Will he walk away from his commitment now? The talk is that offensive coordinator and quarterback coach James Coley is a huge pull for Allison, but this is still one to watch as the Gators want to reel in a top signal caller.

Running back Travis Homer of Oxbridge Academy is a big time play maker and speed guy, something Florida doesn’t have a lot of at the position. He gave Florida a passing look before, so it’s not clear how much interest he would actually show. Still, he is one of the top prospects on their commitment list that would look good in orange and blue.

Joseph Jackson is another pass rushing demon and has really good size going 6-foot-5 and 237 pounds. It’s been kind of a silent recruitment here and Florida has been on Jackson for a while. He was already planning on taking visits to Alabama and South Carolina moving forward and has said that Florida might get a visit. I bet the Gators do at this point.

Linebacker Shaquille Quarterman is a different one when it comes to Florida. He is a diehard Hurricane fan from his early childhood and so this is no doubt very hard on him. Coming from about an hour away from Florida’s campus, Quarterman has visited the Gators quite a few times, but the last time was a bit disappointing. He showed up at Friday Night Lights wearing Miami gear and was highly frowned upon for doing so. Still, he is quite a talent and at a huge need position for the Gators. It would be hard to walk away from this one at this point.
