Florida Gators move up in College Football Playoff rankings

Florida moved back into the top 10 of the rankings.

This week’s College Football Playoff rankings put the Gators at No. 8 following a 24-14 win at South Carolina on Saturday.

Other Southeastern Conference teams in the rankings are No. 2 Alabama, No. 15 LSU and No. 22 Ole Miss. Florida State, who the Gators host on November 28 at 7:30 p.m., came in at No. 14 in this week’s rankings after a home win over North Carolina State last weekend.

Florida dropped in last week’s poll after an ugly 9-7 win over Vanderbilt. This week, the Gators were in complete control against the Gamecocks for three quarters. After opening the fourth quarter with a 17-0 lead, the Florida defense struggled in the final 15 minutes and allowed back-to-back touchdown drives that cut the lead to three points.

The Florida offense put the game away with a six-play, 75-yard drive that ended with Kelvin Taylor punching it in from the one-yard line to end any thoughts of a South Carolina comeback. Taylor ended the game with 20 carries for 111 yards and one touchdown while quarterback Treon Harris went 19-33 through the air for 256 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. The Gators had six players with at least 23 receiving yards on Saturday.

Florida hosts Florida Atlantic on Saturday at 12 p.m. (TV: SEC Network). The Gators host Florida State the following weekend before playing in the SEC Championship in Atlanta on December 5.
