Ath Dre Massey is a Gator

Holmes Community College skill athlete Dre Massey should add some excitement to the Florida roster and do it in January.

The news leaked out and then Dre Massey confirmed he has indeed committed to Florida head coach Jim McElwain and the Gators.

“Yeah, a few minutes ago,” he said with a grin you could see through the telephone. “I had my meeting with Coach Mac, Coach Shannon, and Coach Dixon. WE were talking about this place and what was good for me. I was watching the offense before in a meeting with Coach Dixon. I already had an idea of what I was going to do before I came on the visit.

“Coach Mac was all excited and said, ’You just made us feel a lot better’, because of last night.”

Massey comes in as an athlete and could play in several places on the roster. That is to be determined, but they want to get some of his play making ability on the field in Gainesville.

“I will be a slot, running back, and probably be a kick returner too,” he said. “It is something that fits me. They have one of the best atmospheres around. I was just ready to get down there and visit. I didn’t want to call or text, I wanted to do it in person.

He loved the feeling of being in The Swamp and wants to feel that rush as a player.

“It was crazy, real loud last night… a great atmosphere,” he said. “It made me want to play. It was a good game in the first half but the offense couldn’t get things going.”

“(Gainesville) is a nice place to be. Everything is pretty chill around here, just a great trip.”

Nick Washington and Daniel McMillian helped host Massey and a few others and helped land the guy with a lot of ability.

“I bring speed, explosiveness, and play making ability,” he said. “I think I can bring some big plays. I felt like sometimes in the game this could have happened or that could have happened and I can add that.

“I think I can just see the offensive needs as far as speed, explosiveness, and play making.”
