His commitment to Miami remains even without a head coach, but Tre McKitty will have to reassess things once a new coach is named.
“I am kind of just waiting to see what they are going to do,” he said Saturday night following the rivalry game with Florida State. “The interim head coach is my position coach right now, so I kind of have a relationship with him. I just want to see who they bring in.
McKitty has been impressed so far with what Florida head coach Jim McElwain has done with the program in a short period of time. He knows Florida utilized the tight end position and that is intriguing to him.
“He is showing a lot of good things this year and it will help a lot in recruiting,” the big pass catcher said. “I love the way they use their tight ends. Jake McGee talks to me a lot and he tells me it is a great place.”
That is something that will weigh heavy on his mind.
“It is really important,” he said. “I want to be used in college. Some teams use tight ends a lot, so I want to be one of those tight ends that are used.”
Over the summer McKitty had several camp stops and showed off not only his ability on offense, but as a defensive end as well. Some colleges were really interested in getting a further look at him on that side of the ball too.
“I kind of like the defensive side of the ball, but I think to use my skills the best it would be on the offensive side of the ball,” he said.
The Gators will continue to stay on this top target from the 2017 class. We will keep you informed moving forward on his recruitment.
