Gators "real high" on list for 4-star CB Kristian Fulton

If you take a look at the Florida secondary this year you think deep and talented. You would be correct. But, a look into the very near future and that deep word is not one you would use. That is why prospects like Kristian Fulton are so important for the Gators and he 4-star corner from Louisiana understands it.

Kristian Fulton made his second trip to Gainesville since August this past weekend, but it was his first experience in The Swamp with a game day atmosphere and he was a bit overwhelmed. Even after being at places like LSU, Mississippi State, and Arkansas for games.

“It was real fun and a great experience,” Fulton said days after the trip. “The main thing I wanted was to get that experience of a game day at Florida, it was really great.

“It was electrifying, the best I have been around. I have never seen an entire stadium come together as one and doing a chant (together). It just shows the fans are real loyal and have great support.”

Even before the game Fulton was impressed with the fans and pageantry surrounding the stadium.

“I got there about 1 p.m. and was amazed that everyone was there so many hours before the game doing their thing,” he said.

The Florida staff held out all year from bringing in so many recruits in for one game and did so for the last regular season game of the year. Most thought it would be the last game until maybe a possible bowl appearance, but the Gators will now play in the SEC Championship game just a week later.

Despite being so busy, the Florida staff spent a good bit of time with Fulton on the weekend.

“The time with the coaches was real good,” Fulton said. “They treated me like I was one of their own players. They made me feel that I was important to them.”

He’s built a pretty good relationship with defensive back coach Kirk Callahan who usually talks other things than football with Fulton. On Saturday, Fulton saw for himself the absolute need for additions in the secondary.

“Coach Cal showed me the depth chart and that they are going to have a few people coming out in the draft,” he said. “He showed the recruiting class that they have committed and the only one they signed from last year. He was just showing me that there is plenty of playing time available.”

If there was a single thing that stood out the most, it was the fact that after talking to him quite a bit, Fulton finally got to meet face-to-face with head coach Jim McElwain. On his visit in August, Fulton actually missed McElwain who just happened to be scheduled for the SEC Media Days that day. He enjoyed his time with the Gators leader.

“The biggest thing on the visit was getting to meet Coach Mac,” Fulton said. “I got to get face-to-face with him. He was just very cheerful and a cool dude. I was talking to one of the assistants and he said Coach Mac wants to make everyone around him comfortable. He isn’t a coach that you have to be tight around him. I thought that was pretty cool.”

There are just two months until signing day and a lot of decisions are going to have to be made. As of now, the Gators are going to be a big part of that decision process. He’s pretty non-committal about the rest.

“Florida is real high on my list,” he said. “I haven’t really put out a list because I am still going to try and figure out who has my officials. I know they are going to get an official in January. I am talking to coaches about it but don’t have any other visits set up.”
