Top Gators Kicker target de-commits from Alabama

The Florida Gators kicking issues for the 2015 season have been well documented, so much so that getting a competent field goal kicker in the 2016 class has become one of the biggest necessities of the class. On Monday, the Gators top target de-committed from Alabama.

After a whirlwind recruitment really between two major powerhouse programs, Eddy Pineiro has decided to drop his commitment from Alabama and think about where he will end up. From his post on Twitter it looks like the big time leg will take a few days to consider his options before making a final choice.

Pineiro has a little bit different background than most prospects. He is in Junior College in Miami, but he is not playing football. Because of that, he actually has four years to play four coming out.

As a mid-year enrollee, Pineiro would be able to enroll in January at the school he chooses and compete right away in spring drills before the 2016 season.

The young man with more of a soccer background than as a field goal kicker has been somewhat torn between Alabama and Florida in the process. He camped at Alabama in June, then showed up a day later where he got his first collegiate offer at Florida. Within a couple of days Alabama offered and he committed a short time after that.

You can find Pineiro on several Youtube spots as he continues to lengthen his longest field goal. His latest and longest make was from 77-yards. Here is one from 73 yards,

There is little doubt that he understands the situation that Florida is in with making field goals. The Gators combined to miss five extra points this year and are just 7-17 making field goals.

Pineiro hasn't made up his mind according to the tweet above, but it appears he is leaning to the Gators and would be a huge part of the class if in fact he does commit and sign.
