Landon Dickerson checking out the Gators

Getting the offensive line situation at Florida straightened out is of utmost importance for the 2016 recruiting class the Gators are putting together. Signing five prospects looks likely and the Gators are aiming high.

Landon Dickerson is one of the latest prospects in the offensive trenches that the Gators are trying to make a priority of. The North Carolina lineman has a big time list of suitors and Florida is trying to get in there as one of his tops. Assistant coach Greg Nord was by his school last week to visit and talk up the Gator program.

“I was contacted by Coach Nord,” Dickerson said by phone earlier this week. “He came up to school and talked for a little while and expressed the school’s interest in me. We talked a little bit and got to know each other. I’m kind of interested and he gave me some stats about the school and all. Ever since then it’s just been me calling the coaches and talking to them and getting a feel for the coaches and kind of growing the relationships.”

One thing about Dickerson is his versatility. He could play along several spots on the line. Inevitably he just wants to be a guy that makes a difference and not worried about a particular position.

“I think a very appealing thing for coaches is that I can play almost every position on the line. I am athletic for the size I am,” Dickerson said. I am good with running in space and using my hands.  I am sure I will call them and find out where they would want me.

“I really don’t mind where I play. I just prefer to be somewhere active. If guards are pulling I would like to be a guard, if tackles are pulling and running in space that is what I would want.”

His list of top schools is a pretty stout one indeed.  He knows what he is looking for in each of these programs.

“I’ve been throwing around a top group of Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida is kind of near that mix,” he said. “What I am looking for is the education part. I want an education that will be worthwhile. I will look at the type of people I would be playing for and the ones that will supervise me. I also want a program that will win, a team that goes to bowl games every year and competes in their conference to win it.”

With the Gators, he has actually watched even before Nord came to visit.

“I did pay attention to Florida,” he said. “They had a really good year this year and I know they lost in the SEC Championship. They made a few mistakes in there and it cost them the game. Overall they were a really good team and obviously you have to be a good team to play in that game.”

Nord let him know the importance of getting a guy like Dickerson in this class.

“Coach Nord said they were really thin on the offensive line, especially at tackle,” he said. “That is where they need to recruit some guys.”

He’s got a busy January ahead including three more official visits to make.

“I plan on taking all my visits and have taken one to Florida state and Auburn,” he said. “I have two scheduled for Alabama and Georgia and one more weekend open.”
