Gators part of ‘final decision’ for Tyrie Cleveland

Jim McElwain has let Tyrie Cleveland know he is an important part of the puzzle the Gators are trying to put together in this 2016 class. The Houston Texas receiver is a bit of everything when it comes to talent at the position and will have Florida in the picture until the end despite his commitment to Houston.

A 4-star talent, Cleveland is blessed with size, speed, and agility as a big time receiver. He understands the Gators are looking to add a lot of talent at receiver in the 2016 class. Florida head coach Jim McElwain has been working the young man.

“I hit him up on Twitter a lot,” Cleveland said of conversations with McElwain. “He wants me to come and give them a chance in recruiting and they want to open up the offense more. They’ve been telling me the outside is wide open.”

Originally from Jacksonville, Florida, Cleveland has always had an interest in the Gators.

“I’ve been watching Florida growing up and now getting offered, I am very blessed,” he said. “Florida is a great program and is moving in the right direction. They just need pieces to move in the right direction.

Part of the pieces needed is the quarterback position. They are working on that including a commitment and early enrollment of Feleipe Franks. Cleveland knows all about Franks.

“I think the offensive problems are with the quarterback,” he said. “Once the quarterback situation gets good everything will settle down.

“I know (Franks) has a great arm. He’s a great guy. He is smart and makes great reads. A chance to play with him would be great.”

And the staff knows that adding Cleveland would be a huge shot in the arm.

“They like my size and speed,” he said. “I’m a deep threat in the offense. I can play both inside and outside.”

With visits set for TCU on January 15 and Florida on January 29, Cleveland is going to take his time finishing the recruiting process.

“My final decision will go to signing day,” he said.
