UA Week Breakdown: Haskins was the best quarterback on the field the entire week, but it wasn’t a great unit overall. He can move and throw and has a nice sense of awareness in the pocket when he is being rushed. The Gator prospects were working on him, especially Chauncey Gardner and Joshua Hammond. The Gators at this point definitely have a shot.
UA Week Breakdown: Arguably a top three receiver all week. Hammond did make a great catch or two, but his game is consistency and getting positive yards. He is deceptively fast as well. He looks like a guy that will come in and play right away after enrolling early this week. Already noted he was recruiting others to Florida, although he is a pretty quiet kid overall.
UA Week Breakdown: Wasn’t as flashy as you would expect from the number one receiver in the country. Craig is just a low key guy for the most part where as a sophomore and junior he was always making crazy catches and big plays. As far as the recruiting goes, I still say he doesn’t talk about a particular school unless you mention the school. When you mention Florida he says the right things. UA Week Breakdown: Was the best receiver at the week of practice in Orlando. He’s tall, fast, and quick, basically a big play waiting to happen. On the recruiting front, Cleveland really opened up about his interest in Florida during interview sessions. He remains committed but having him visit during the last weekend of the recruiting cycle seems like a very big thing. CLICK HERE for a little bit more on this one.
UA Week Breakdown: Stove had a solid week overall in Orlando. Athletically he fits in well, but had some lapses and dropped balls during the week that took a little away. Still, he’s a big time prospect that belongs with the top group of receivers out there. On the recruiting front, Stove seems very upbeat about Florida when he talks about the gators. He remains committed to Auburn, but is one Florida will pursue until the end.
UA Week Breakdown: Bruce disappeared a lot of the week. He wasn’t used much when he was out there, but did show that he is an effective kickoff returner during the game. He also missed basically one whole day with heat issues. On the recruiting end, he is going to visit the Gators during January, but it seems that he will be sticking with his Miami commitment.
UA Week Breakdown: Injured, so he didn’t participate during the week. Gavin is most interested in Florida State and Alabama, one of those are likely his destination. But, the Gators are still recruiting and with his high school teammate and quarterback Feleipe Franks coming, Franks will likely work him to take a visit before January is over.
UA Week Breakdown: Mathis is a good one and has a good size for a guy that can get down the field and make plays as well. On the recruiting front he took a trip to Michigan and liked it. Florida is right there among schools he is interested in. Alabama and Ole Miss are up there as well. No official visit scheduled for the Gators yet, but it seems likely.
UA Week Breakdown: Heggie won the starting job as the center for his team which says a lot. He looks to really be in great shape and physically mature, maybe a guy physically that can come in and ply when he arrives on campus in June. Committed to Florida, he’s a true center that has played the position for a while and is sound technique wise. He did say he was talking to a few guys about coming to be Gators this week.
UA Week Breakdown: Massive lineman from North Carolina that was really impressive during the week. Really could play any spot along the line, built like a guard with tackle ability. On the recruiting front, Florida got in late, but he has scheduled an official visit for January 15. Florida State is seemingly the leader, so the Gators have their work cut out.
UA Week Breakdown: This kid is built like you want your tackles to look. He’s really athletic for the position and I watched him make a move on one defensive end where he clubbed the guy and the coach watching him said “I have never seen anyone do that”. He will also visit on January 15, but he is a strong lean to FSU at this point. He’s another one they have a lot of work to do to get, but Clayton has been working on.
UA Week Breakdown: Manuel didn’t have a great year as he played a little over weight. He lost some of that and looked better this week and showed a little better movement than we have heard from in recent months. With regard to recruiting, he named Florida his leader this past week and was a possibility to announce. The Gators have been in the lead for quite some time.
UA Week Breakdown: One of the top players at any position during the week. His stock nationally will soar. He was the quickest off the edge and he plays with a tenacity that you like to see with edge rushers. From everything I see and hear, the Gator commitment is all Gator and is looking forward to coming in and winning the spot vacated by Alex McCalister in the lineup.
UA Week Breakdown: Big time linebacker that runs very well and practiced well, but left the game without appearing on the stat sheet. He’s still a top target for Florida, Georgia, and Alabama. The Gators are still his stated leader and he will visit Florida in January. Along with the other two schools.
UA Week Breakdown: Huge linebacker in the 245 pound range that is as good a run stuffer as you will see. He had a solid week at Under Armour. Jackson is going to visit the Gators and spoke highly of Florida and Randy Shannon when asked. This one seems pretty open at the moment and not that the Gators lead, but I do believe they have a shot.
UA Week Breakdown: I think Gardner surprised a lot of people in a good way with his play during the week of practices. It isn’t that anyone thought he didn’t belong, but he really played at a level higher than anyone anticipated. You will definitely hear him on the field, and then he backs his words up. He also has been very vocal in the recruiting department. He has been all over Kristian Fulton all week and then joined in hard recruiting Tyrie Cleveland as well. Read a little nugget about that at this LINK.
UA Week Breakdown: Fulton and Levonta Taylor were the top corners at the event and Fulton has a great deal of size over the other. He is super quick and would be a great receiver and return man as well, but he is instinctive at corner and routinely makes plays. He was getting recruited a great deal by the Gators in the event and you can read all about that on the message boards here at Fightin’ Gators.
