Quarterback Austin Appleby announces transfer to Florida

Purdue graduate Austin Appleby is transferring to Florida according to his Twitter feed. The redshirt junior quarterback will graduate with a bachelor degree at Purdue this semester and reportedly show up for classes at Florida this week.

The Big–Ten All-Academic Honoree started 10 games in 2014 and five in 2015. He is 268-455 for 2,777 yards, 19 touchdowns and 19 interceptions in his time at quarterback at Purdue.

Florida has been in a bit of a predicament at the position since the suspension of red-shirt freshman Will Grier after game six. With one scholarship quarterback on campus, sophomore Treon Harris really struggled to do much for the rest of the season as the Gators went from a 6-0 team to finishing 4-4 in the last eight games.

Appleby announced via Twitter that he was leaving Purdue and should be able to play right away as a graduate transfer.

Appleby will be thrown right into the mix with true freshmen Feleipe Franks and Kyle Trask along with Harris this spring to help settle the quarterback position. A pure pocket passer, the 6-foot-5, 239 pound gun slinger fits the physical mold of what they are looking for in a signal caller.

Stay tuned to Fightin’ Gators as we look to find out more on Appleby and the quarterback situation.
