Brett Heggie Already Feels Like a Gator

Brett Heggie feels like part of the Gator family. The Florida pledge discusses his official visit and his thoughts on a couple of the linemen left on the board for the Gators.

Brett Heggie already feels like a Gator after his official visit to Florida this weekend.

"It was fun," said the three-star center from Mount Dora. "I got to hang around the coaches a lot. I got to see everything again. I got to meet a lot of the players, which was probably the best part of the trip. I got to see who is there and start building that relationship, since they are going to be my teammates in the next couple of months."

The Florida pledge was hosted by T.J. McCoy, and hung around him and fellow lineman Tyler Jordan

"They said it was a great place to be, and it was a lot of fun," said Heggie. "They enjoy playing for this staff, and they said it is going to be an exciting time here in the future."

These interactions with the players is what really made this visit stand out from his other trips to Gainesville.

"Just how the guys acted. It wa a more of a welcoming and bringing you in and showing how everything is than anything else. It wasn't like they were looking at you as a 17-year-old recruit, it was more like they were welcoming a was cool how they just took you in."

Heggie was not the only one to notice the family atmosphere at Florida. According to the center, linemen targets John Simpson and Landon Dickerson were also enjoying the vibe among the group, and Heggie was doing his part to help both Simpson and Dickerson feel at home.

"I know Landon [Dickerson] since the Opening," said Heggie. "We were also on the same team at the Under Armour. We played right next to each other, so we have a pretty good relationship. I got to spend a lot of time with him and talk to him since whenever we were with the guys, I was with him. I think we made a good push. I think Florida jumped a little bit in his recruiting process. I know he is going to finish his officials and make his decision. I am excited to see where he is going.

"John [Simpson] I had some time to talk to him and we hung out," Heggie added.  "He is in the same situation. They both really like [offensive line] coach [Mike] Summers and the rest of the coaching staff and how it felt going in there and meeting everyone and hanging out with all the players. He is another guy that is taking his officials and deciding on signing day."

In the end, Heggie hopes both of them feel what he knows, the culture is changing in Gainesville.

"They [the Florida staff] have always been genuine with me, all the way through the process. It's just that welcoming, family feel immediately as soon as you walk in the door. That comfortable feel that really attracts all these guys.

"Now coming off a great season, we have a lot of energy going into the season with some of the recruits that we have gotten. It's just an exciting time for us."
